Long and Post-Acute COVID-19
COVID-19 is a novel disease which is revealing unprecedented challenges. While many patients with symptoms fortunately can survive acute disease, a substantial cohort undergoes a sustained clinical picture, exhibiting a subacute stage or “long” COVID-19. While the etiology of subacute COVID-19 remains unclear, disturbed immune responses, viral persistence, neural cell damage may be possible mechanisms. Further a multidisciplinary approach is needed to treat those patients.
